Less Waste, More Paste
From the very beginning, JOI was designed to reduce food and packaging waste
After years of throwing out countless non-recyclable containers of plant milk, our founders thought there had to be a better solution. Knowing that store-bought plant milks are mostly just water:
What if we could just “concentrate” on the good stuff ?
And just like that, plant bases by JOI were born
Because you add the water
You get more servings per container, reducing roughly 85% of packaging waste with our jars, and up to 96% with our pails!
We get to focus on minimal, quality, whole ingredients without relying on gums, fillers and additives to "bind" or "bulk” the milk.
We can rely on the naturally long shelf lives of the ingredients without the use of preservatives or required refrigeration.
You have the freedom to make plant milk whenever you want, however much you want, and just the way you like it!

Today, JOI products have saved:
Non-recyclable cartons from landfills and counting
Plant-based = Planet Safe
We believe every company has a duty to put products out there that do better - not worse. From our supply chain, to packaging, to the final product, every decision we make can create an impact. It gives us peace of mind and a sense of fulfillment knowing that we are doing the absolute best we can do to ensure a better future for the planet and the people on it.
When it comes to creating the world’s most sustainable plant milks, we’re just getting started.
Our operations
SEE MORE
Did you know that ocean freight is one of the biggest contributors to carbon emissions? That’s why we try to keep as local (within the US) as possible for all aspects of the product, from ingredients, to materials, to packaging; and our centrally located fulfillment centers help to reduce average shipping distances. By continuing to offer bulk sizes, we can optimize palletization of products AND we reduce the amount of packaging used and shipments made to customers.
Our ingredients

We maintain close relationships with all our suppliers, and engage in open communication with them about business practices and raw material sourcing. By continuing to use minimal, whole ingredients, we optimize shipping from just one (or two) suppliers (compared to multiple suppliers), which also makes it easier to source sustainably. Our shelf stable products eliminate the need for refrigeration (which requires a lot of energy) and reduce food waste due to spoilage.
Our packaging
SEE MORE
Using our products eliminates multiple non-recyclable containers from going to landfills. Recently, we have switched our paste products to a more sustainable, cradle-to-cradle packaging: our glass jars are designed to be reused multiple life cycles by consumers, and can be recycled through easily-accessible city programs. Our powder products are packaged in pouches made from a post-consumer recycled material, which allows us to reduce our carbon footprint, lessen our impact on landfills, and meet our overall sustainability goals, without relying on our customers to properly recycle or compost the package after use.
