5-Minute Easy Peanut Sauce (No Cook, No Blender)

Why make this easy peanut sauce?

Good peanut sauce should be glossy, salty, a little sweet and bright with lime, and it should take less time than boiling the noodles it goes on. This one does. You squeeze JOI Organic Peanut Base straight into a bowl, add tamari, lime, maple and fresh ginger, then whisk in warm water until it ribbons off the spoon. Because the base is just organic peanuts, there is no hidden sugar or oil to work around, so you season it exactly how you like. The squeeze bottle also means no scraping a sticky jar or wrestling with the oil slick on top of natural peanut butter. Expect a sauce that is rich and nutty, pourable for dressing noodles or thick enough for dipping, ready in about 5 minutes.

Why this recipe is so easy

  • One bowl, one whisk, no stove and no blender.

  • Seven pantry ingredients plus water.

  • Thickness is adjustable in seconds: more water to drizzle, less to dip.

Recipe card

  • Servings: about 3/4 cup sauce (6 servings of 2 tbsp)

  • Prep time: 5 minutes

  • Cook time: none

  • Total time: 5 minutes

  • Category: Sauce, Dressing + Dip

  • Dietary: vegan and dairy-free by ingredients; gluten-free when made with tamari

  • Equipment: medium bowl, whisk or fork, microplane or fine grater

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup JOI Organic Peanut Base, used directly from the bottle (shake well first)

  • 2 tbsp tamari or low-sodium soy sauce

  • 1 1/2 tbsp fresh lime juice (about 1 lime)

  • 1 tbsp maple syrup

  • 1 tsp rice vinegar

  • 1 tsp freshly grated ginger

  • 1 small garlic clove, finely grated

  • 1 to 2 tsp sriracha or chili garlic sauce, to taste

  • 3 to 5 tbsp warm water

Directions

  1. Shake the bottle for a few seconds, then squeeze 1/3 cup of Organic Peanut Base into a medium bowl.

  2. Add the tamari, lime juice, maple syrup, rice vinegar, ginger, garlic and sriracha. Whisk for about 20 seconds. The mixture will look thick and may tighten up at first; that is normal.

  3. Whisk in warm water 1 tablespoon at a time. Stop at 3 tbsp for a dipping sauce that clings to a spring roll, or go to 5 tbsp for a pourable sauce for noodles and bowls. It is ready when it is glossy and falls from the whisk in a steady ribbon.

  4. Taste and adjust: more lime for brightness, tamari for salt, maple for sweetness, sriracha for heat.

  5. Serve right away, or chill. It thickens in the fridge, so loosen with 1 to 2 tsp warm water before serving.

Why the JOI squeeze bottle works here

Peanut sauce lives or dies on the base-to-liquid balance. Squeezing lets you add the base in a controlled stream, and if the sauce gets too thin you can squeeze in a little more without dirtying another spoon. Your measuring cup stays clean, too.

Customizations and substitutions

  • Coconut lime: replace 2 tbsp of the water with canned coconut milk.

  • Satay style: add 1/2 tsp curry powder and a pinch of ground turmeric.

  • No soy: use coconut aminos and add a pinch of salt.

  • Peanut-free swap: Organic Hemp Base works for a milder, earthier sauce; it is not a flavor match for peanut, and all JOI bases are made in a facility that also processes tree nuts.

  • Serving ideas: toss with rice noodles and shredded vegetables, spoon over tofu bowls, or use as the dressing for a crunchy broccoli slaw. If you like this, try our cold (or warm) sesame noodle salad next.

Common mistakes

  • Adding all the water at once: the sauce can look broken. Add it gradually and keep whisking.

  • Using cold water: warm water loosens the base faster and gives a smoother finish.

Storage

  • JOI base: store the bottle in a cool, dark pantry; refrigeration is not required. Shake before use.

  • Finished sauce: refrigerate in an airtight container. Because it contains fresh garlic, ginger and lime, use it within a few days (confirm the exact window with the food safety reviewer before publishing). Do not leave it out at room temperature for more than 2 hours, per USDA leftovers guidance.

  • No reheating needed. Serve cold or at room temperature.

Frequently asked questions

  1. Can I make peanut sauce without a blender? Yes. A whisk or fork is all you need because the base is already smooth and pourable.

  2. How do I make peanut sauce thinner or thicker? Thin it with warm water 1 tsp at a time. Thicken it with another squeeze of peanut base.

  3. Why did my peanut sauce get thick in the fridge? Peanut fats firm up when cold. Stir in a splash of warm water and it loosens again.

  4. Can I use this as a salad dressing? Yes. Use the full 5 tbsp water plus an extra 1 tsp rice vinegar for a dressing that coats leaves without clumping.
