The Kickoff of Snack Season
Whether football (or basketball...or baseball...or hockey...etc.) season is right around the corner, and you know what that means: Sundays (or anyday!) spent snacking and watching game after game after game...
Whether you're a sports fan or not, though, you know how hard it is to find snacks that are equal parts delicious and nutritious. We're here to share one of our favorite recipes with you, one that features a JOI milk concentrate at its core. Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to meet our healthy cauliflower dip.
Why is Healthy Cauliflower Dip So Healthy?
Just because a dip features veggies doesn't necessarily make it healthy — gooey restaurant spinach-artichoke dip, we're looking at you.
Our healthy cauliflower dip earns its moniker because, well, it features a full slate of good-for-you ingredients. It's just a blend of one of our plant bases — we suggest cashew or almond for the best results — alongside a chopped-up head of cauliflower and some spices. Already, this sounds like it's nutritious, but let's dig a little deeper.
The heart of this recipe is, of course, the cauliflower. And this cruciferous veggie has so much to offer you health-wise. It's full of fiber, which can speed up your digestion and help you lose weight. Cauliflower is also replete with antioxidants and phytonutrients, both of which can ward off cancer.
Now, we promised that we'd serve you something that is both good for you and tasty. Our cauliflower dip can offer you just that: here's why it's so good.
What's So Good About It?
Cauliflower on its own might be a bit bland. But if you toss in black lime powder, garlic powder, and turmeric, it is so much more interesting to the palate. And that's just the beginning of what makes this dip stand out.
Another way to develop even more flavor is to use roasted cauliflower instead of steamed cauliflower. Roasting allows the cauliflower to caramelize and develop more flavor. Just toss the cauliflower florets with olive oil, salt and pepper and spread on a baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes to 30 minutes at 350-400 degrees F, until fork tender and golden.
We may be a little biased, but our JOI cashew base is the perfect addition to this type of dip. You want something creamy that's almost cheese-like, just without the dairy? There's a reason why cashews are so popular as vegan cheese replacements — they have that smooth tanginess you seek.
So, combine that with the goodness of cauliflower and the aforementioned spices, and you've got something that tastes really good for being vegan and, as the recipe title suggests, healthy. You can go a step further and add even more flavor by choosing to roast the cauliflower, rather than steaming it — that crispy oven-baked taste will go a long way.
All you'll need to do is cut up some crudités and round up some crunchy dippers, such as pita chips, to go with your finished cauliflower creation.
When Should I Eat My Healthy Cauliflower Dip?
There's no wrong time to eat healthy cauliflower dip — let's just go ahead and say that upfront. However, there are some times when it's particularly perfect.
As we said, it would be a great game day treat in the fall and winter when you want to snack all day but would prefer to do so with something healthy. The same goes for those days when you just get hungry in the middle of the afternoon. You'll be able to power through work with a small bowl of cauliflower dip and crudités at your side.
