Apple Nachos with Almond Butter Drizzle
Apple Nachos with Almond Butter Drizzle

Why make apple nachos?
Apple nachos are the snack that disappears first at any party: crisp apple slices fanned on a plate, a nutty drizzle, then a crunchy, chocolatey shower of toppings. The trick is the drizzle. Jarred nut butter is too thick to zigzag, so most recipes microwave it first. JOI Almond Base skips that step. It is smooth enough to squeeze in thin, even lines straight from the bottle, which means every slice gets some without a puddle in the middle. Granola adds crunch, dark chocolate and coconut add a treat-like finish, and a squeeze of lemon keeps the apples from browning. Expect a sweet, crunchy, shareable plate in about 10 minutes, no cooking required.
Why this recipe is so easy

Dietary: vegan and dairy-free if using dairy-free chocolate and granola; gluten-free with certified gluten-free granola
-
Equipment: cutting board, knife or apple slicer, bowl, serving platter
Ingredients
-
2 large crisp apples (such as Honeycrisp or Pink Lady)
-
1 tbsp lemon juice plus 1 cup cold water
-
3 tbsp JOI Almond Base, used directly as the drizzle
-
1 tsp maple syrup, optional, for a sweeter drizzle
-
1/4 cup granola, such as our chocolate sea salt granola
-
2 tbsp dairy-free dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate
-
1 tbsp unsweetened shredded coconut
-
1 tbsp hemp hearts or chopped toasted almonds
-
Pinch of ground cinnamon and flaky salt
Directions
-
Wash the apples under running water (FDA produce guidance). Core and slice into 1/4-inch rounds or wedges.
-
Stir the lemon juice into the cold water. Dip the slices for 1 minute, then pat dry with a towel. Dry slices help the drizzle stick.
-
Fan the slices over a platter in overlapping layers.
-
Shake the Almond Base bottle well. Squeeze in thin zigzag lines across the apples, moving quickly back and forth for even coverage. For a thinner, sweeter drizzle, squeeze the base into a small bowl, whisk in maple syrup and 1 tsp warm water, then spoon over.
-
Scatter granola, chocolate, coconut and hemp hearts. Finish with cinnamon and a pinch of flaky salt. Serve right away.
Why the JOI squeeze bottle works here
The drizzle is the whole technique. A spoon drops thick blobs; a squeeze bottle makes thin, controlled lines so every slice is coated lightly and the toppings stick. It also turns snack time into something kids can do themselves.
Customizations and substitutions
-
PB and J: use JOI Organic Peanut Base and add a few spoonfuls of jam.
-
Caramel apple: add a drizzle of homemade vegan caramel sauce (link to Recipe 6 once live).
-
Fall spice: dust with pumpkin pie spice and add chopped pecans.
-
Afternoon slump? Our energy butter snack and spring bliss balls are also quick.
Common mistakes
-
Wet apples: water makes the drizzle slide off. Pat them dry.
-
Topping too early: granola softens. Assemble right before serving.
Storage
-
JOI base: pantry, cool and dark.
-
Assembled nachos: best eaten within 1 hour. Do not hold cut fruit at room temperature longer than 2 hours.
-
Prep ahead: slice and lemon-dip apples, then refrigerate in a sealed container for a few hours. Add the drizzle and toppings just before serving.
Frequently asked questions

How do you keep apple slices from browning? Dip them in lemon water for a minute, then dry them.
-
What are the best apples for apple nachos? Crisp, sweet-tart apples like Honeycrisp, Pink Lady or Gala hold up to toppings.
